Practical Competition Shooting League
It's coming to the Sawmill Training Complex in Laurens, SC
The Sawmill is hosting its first ever PCSL competition on 1 December 2024. That is the Sunday of Thanksgiving weekend. Come out and work off the Thanksgiving indulgences at the range. It is a way better way to spend that Sunday than drowsing on the couch in front of yet another football game.
The picture above shows the model of one of the stages for the 1 December PCSL match at the Sawmill. The stage is also up on Practiscore. As the stage designs are completed, I will add them to Practiscore.
By the way, this is a new method of documenting stages for me. I’m very interested in your feedback on the effectiveness of this versus sketching the stages in a stage design tool or a drafting tool. I have been using Visio because I’m a boomer, because I know it inside out, and because I have a lifetime license for Visio. The models in the picture above came from Tim’s Targets (https://www.timstargets.com/stagedesign).
I did try the Stage design tool on Steam and I didn’t find it to my liking.
PCSL is a relatively new and rapidly growing shooting discipline. It uses either Points per Second / Hit Factor (PPS/HF) scoring or “time plus points” scoring. In either case, there is a premium for accuracy. For the Sawmill competition, we will use PPS/HF scoring.
The description of PCSL is from the PCSL Website (https://www.pcsleague.us/). Further down is some information on the Sawmill PCSL competition. Register for the Sawmill PCSL competition at https://practiscore.com/sawmill-practical-competition-shooting-league-2-gun-match-december-1st-2024/register
"What PCSL offers today is a practical competition shooting format brought into the modern era. We’ve managed to not only expand the accessibility of competing in shooting sports, but also drastically increased the skill ceiling of our format at the highest level. By introducing simple divisions focused on real-world modern equipment, and an easy-to-understand common sense rulebook, PCSL makes it extremely easy to jump in and start competing for shooters from all different backgrounds.
By introducing a re-imagined target that demands a higher accuracy standard than other shooting sport alternatives, and by retaining the perfect balance of points-per-second (or “hit factor”) scoring, PCSL pushes the skill ceiling of competition even higher, making space for new legends to make names for themselves and push the boundaries of what we believe to be possible on a course of fire."
This PCSL match at the Sawmill will have the two core divisions of PCSL (Competition and Practical). This is a 2-Gun (pistol and rifle/carbine) match. One of the stages will include shotgun targets (shotgun and ammo provided as a "stage gun").
For our local PCSL matches at the Sawmill, we will have a Tactical category. PCSL is unlikely to have a Tactical category in regional or national matches but we include it because it is a fun category and it is a great training category. The Tactical category requires a plate carrier (15 lbs men, 12 lbs women) and Tactical athletes will perform a work component in each stage.
Competitor categories are: Mens Prime, Men, Masters (50+), Women, Tactical
