The cathedral in Oviedo - the start of the Camino Primitivo
We are in Oviedo after a long bus ride yesterday. The bus ride was complicated for me by a case of what American tourists in Mexico call “Montezuma’s revenge.”
Early tomorrow we start walking. Because it will still be dark then, I walked the first mile or so today to make sure that I understood the markings.
The video above is the first little bit of the start. It is well enough marked and it looks easy to follow.
Oviedo is a nice looking mountain town. It is clean and well laid out. As in Madrid, the food is good. There is a lot of regional Asturian food on the menus in the restaurants.
We are staying at the Hospedería Oviedo which is located very near the cathedral. It’s quite nice and the lady who runs it is very helpful. It is noisy but that’s to be expected.
We are walking to Grado tomorrow (15.9 miles). It will be nice to get out of the cities and walk in the countryside.
As you can see from the relief map, the elevation gain is about 2,200 ft (662 meters). This is one of the gentler days on the section from Oviedo to Lugo.
Here are a few pictures from Oviedo.

This is apparently a music club. Great name!
I’ll post again tomorrow after we get to Grado. That should be an interesting walk and town.
